Campaign To Save The Sidcup Elmstead Unit At Queen Mary's Hospital
This blog for the first time ever is not sound related but still very important none the less.
Please have a read and show your support.
Dear Reader,
I would like to bring to your attention that The Elmstead Unit at Sidcup has been put under review which could mean closure.
This centre provides rehabilitation for people with diseases such as M.S, which my mum has. There is nothing similar to the centre in the south east and closure doesn't bear thinking about for us.
Lat year she had a serious infection, not knowing what it was at the time, I took her to A and E where she was discharged on two occasions as they said that there was nothing wrong with her. I knew that there was something seriously wrong with her and so as I knew the nurses personally at The Elmstead, I literally carried her into the unit where they took her in and gave her the right medication. It turns out that she had septicemia and had I not taken her in and she receive this specialist treatment, there is a good chance that she would have died.
It is disgusting that the government have to make cuts within our economy that affect disabled people, I am determined to fight for their right to have as normal a life as they possibly can considering their circumstance. This unit is a lifeline to my family and I and to talk about even thinking of closing it is a crime.
Please could you show your support and sign the petition by using one of the links below. I am part of the campaigning group and we have been having discussions about the future of the centre and have James Brockenshire, local MP behind us. See photo below of meeting at The Elmstead Unit on Friday 8th April 2011
